Canucks,
We are pleased to formally announce that Rugby is back! Now that we are in Stage 2 of Alberta's reopening and both adult and youth sports are permitted without group size restrictions, we can start training to get ready for the upcoming season.
Due to the long time away from rugby, it is important that we follow World Rugby, Rugby Canada, and Rugby Alberta's guidance as we return to play. Our reintroduction to contact will be staged, with a focus on player safety, and will allow everyone to return to rugby in a gradual manner. Please see the attached Return to Tackle document, which we and the other CRU member clubs will be following.
We will be back to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 pm to 8 pm, at Stanley Park, starting on June 15, 2021. The Canucks will be fielding two teams this year in the Senior Men's leagues; a Competitive side (mixed 1s and 2s); and a Recreational side (Dad's Army).
Only registered players can participate in training, so please get registered.
So what does the season look like?
We will only be playing against other clubs in the CRU. There will be no games with the ERU clubs.
In the month of July, there will be a number of Rush Rugby, 10s and other festival type events on Saturdays. The Canucks plan on fielding teams for all of the July dates. See attached CRU Calendar.
The official "season" will kickoff on August 07 and run until September 18th. See attached CRU Calendar.
The 2021 rugby season will culminate with an Octoberfest tournament at the CRU.
We are excited to get to finally play some rugby and look forward to seeing you all registered and out at training and soon enough.
Best,
Marty Bentley,
President
